Living With Allergies

It is not uncommon in today's society to hear of or know someone with allergies. When you mention allergies the first thing people think of are seasonal allergies like ragweed and pollen, but it extends far beyond that. Remember God made each of us as individuals with different needs... I am learning that this includes our health needs. Some allergies are serious business- like the ones that cause anaphylactic shock (this is when someone's airways close off and they can't breathe). Others are silent killers- on the outside there are no signs that anything is wrong, but on the inside they are slowly destroying part of the body- which will lead to more serious problems later. In our house allergies/sensitivities are triggers for other health problems. I have Hashimotos which is an autoimmune thyroid disorder... I take 2 different thyroid medicines for this (I hope to heal my body and no longer take these one day), but the medicine doesn't seem to work correctly unless I watch my diet. I try to avoid gluten and cows milk products because they prevent my medicine from doing its job. Gluten in my body causes swelling (everything from my joints to my face can swell- but not many people notice). Cows milk causes digestion issues and leaves me feeling yucky. After finding out that other things are triggers that affect my overall health; my mind has been opened to a whole realm of knowledge. Our bodies weren't meant to be medicated- they were meant to be fed correctly. This has changed our diet to about 75% organic, we strive to eat whole foods (foods that have not been processed), more of our meals come from scratch, and treats out of a bag/box are slowly becoming a thing of the past. This has been a change that we have made slowly as to make it a lifestyle. Along the way I am learning more and so is my family... I hope you join us in the venture to better health!
